The Red Hat Society was officially 10 years old on 25 April 2008!

And what is the Red Hat Society?
We are a diverse group of women of a certain age and attitude, who have decided to greet middle age with enthusiasm, vigor and vivaciousness.  We embrace the humorous side of the Golden Years and experience life with joy and true sisterhood.  We wear red hats as our “badge of boldness” and purple clothes as an emblem of royal distinction.   We are the Queens of the World!

From a small group of six friends and the poem "Warning" by Jenny Joseph in 1998, the Red Hat Society became an officially charted organization in 2000.  Today there are over one million Red Hatters world-wide with over 30,000 chapters.  In the Albuquerque area alone, there are about 60 chapters, with many more in the rest of New Mexico.

The recently established Red Hat Queens Council is bringing many Albuquerque Chapters together by inviting the Chapter Queens to meet on a regular basis for collaboration on many fun events, the latest being the very successful "Glitz & Glamour Gala" at the Marriott Hotel.  We like to call ourselves a "disorganization" due to the lack of rules and restrictions, so each Chapter follows their own agenda - there are very large and some very small groups, each set up with different structures (maybe just a Queen, some with a Vice-Queen and some with a Royal Court).  For more information, check out

This website was created by the Queens Council in order to keep all local Chapters informed of all activities throughout the year in the State of New Mexico.  Please contact Nancy Conty, Queen of Queens or Dolores Repik in publicity with any questions and/or comments
